APAP 5 TRAILER

Anyang Amusement Park (now Anyang Art Park) has been a place for rest for the citizens of Seoul and surrounding areas. I also have a childhood memory of spending time at the park. The place has been used as an amusement area since the Japanese colonial period, and one can consider it as a natural heritage created by the surrounding mountains and also many temples in the mountains. We often think that plazas and train stations in the city as public space, but a place like Anyang Amusement Park can be the most historical public space that represents the city of Anyang.

As a city, Anyang has an image of a place full of factories. However, the name of the city comes from the Buddhist word that means the heaven, which contains the symbolic meaning of origin. In this sense, Anyang Amusement Park has been foreseeing or realizing the intention of Anyang Public Art Project.

Shot with a drone flying above the park, the trailer of APAP 5 shows the stream of the valley that flows through Anyang Art Park, the trees, stones, grass, and the citizens taking their time off in nature. The names of participating artists to APAP 5 appear and disappear on the view of Anyang Art Park as a place for rest and public space. The flow of water in the stream encounters and collides with the names, drawing a conversation between the nature that has been in the place for a long time and the new cultural event that takes place there. In this way, the trailer hopes to create an image that connects APAP that goes beyond being a contemporary art event distant from the citizens’ life but connected to people’s everyday lives.
